Election Day is a great opportunity to introduce little learners to voting, making choices, and having a voice.

Today, we explored these ideas through a classroom voting activity, an American flag craft, and a hands-on AB pattern activity with name beads.
1. American Flag Craft
This simple craft introduces children to the American flag while strengthening fine motor skills through cutting and gluing.
What You’ll Need
- White paper
- Red paper with dotted cutting lines
- A small blue rectangle
- White paper stars or star stickers
- Scissors and glue

How to Make It
1. Cut the red paper along the dotted lines to make strips.
2. Glue the red strips onto white paper to create the flag’s stripes.
3. Add a blue rectangle in the upper-left corner.
4. Decorate with white stars.
Children practice scissor control, follow directions, and create their own American flags.

2. AB Pattern Bead Activity
Make pattern practice fun with colorful beads and children’s names!
Children follow a simple AB pattern, such as red-yellow-red-yellow, using a color-coded guide. Then they add letter beads to spell their names in the middle and continue the pattern on either side.
What You’ll Need:
- Red and yellow beads
- Letter beads
- String or pipe cleaners
- AB pattern printable
This activity builds pattern recognition, fine motor skills, and name recognition through hands-on learning.
